Emerald Lake

 

Emerald Lake is in Yoho National Park in British Columbia; a short drive from Lake Louise in Banff National Park. This lake is known for the restaurant at the end of the bridge at the beginning of the lake. The restaurant leaves its lights on at night for an hour after sunset for the guests.

The lake is surprisingly easy to get to without any hard hiking. It’s minutes from the Trans Canada Highway just past Field; you have to watch for the right turn off just outside of Field.

Emerald lake gets its beautiful blue colour from the Alpine glaciers that feed the lake.

 

Mountain views

 

The president Range Mountains surround the lake on three out of four sides. There are forests on two of the four sides which make up the beauty of this location. On the road into Emerald Lake you pass Mt Burgess and Walcott Peak on the east side. Wapta Mountain is behind the lake also on the east side. Emerald peak is north of the lake as are MtCarnarvon and Michael Peak. Emerald Basin is north of the lake and is a popular hike.

There is an easy trail that is around the lake and towards Emerald Basin which is 5.2 km.
