Larch Trees
Every Autumn; Alberta hikers go crazy trying to get a peek at the larch trees in the Rocky Mountains for a couple of weeks. Parking lots fill up; trails get packed; and social media goes wild for the golden needles. These are special kind of coniferous trees; as they aren’t evergreens and their needles turn a beautiful golden colour in autumn and eventually fall to the forest ground. The beautiful colour remains from mid-September to early October. All of the mountain parks in Alberta have larch trees; including Waterton Lakes National Park; Banff National Park; and Kananaskis. To see the larch trees in; you have to put in the effort; as hiking trails are the best places to view them. Luckily; there are many excellent hikes to choose from.
