Jardene Photography held a draw in May 2020 for a print from our collection.
The response was overwhelming with over 400 people joining our Facebook page and commenting on their favourite photograph.
The winner of the draw was picked out of a bowl by my 10-year-old daughter in a random draw with all the people that liked our page and commented on our post. Congratulations are in order to Donna from Saskatchewan. Donna received a 17″ x 22″ print of our Award-winning photo of Moraine Lake Blue Hour.
Offering free draws to win photographic prints is a powerful and often underestimated marketing tool for photographers, especially in a competitive online space. Free draws create excitement and lower the barrier for people to engage with a photographer’s work, allowing potential clients to connect with the brand without feeling pressured to make an immediate purchase.
For photographers, this type of giveaway helps build an email list or social media following, which becomes a valuable long-term asset for future launches, exhibitions, and print releases. When participants enter a draw, they are actively choosing to interact with the photographer’s art, increasing brand awareness and emotional investment. Free draws also encourage sharing, as entrants often spread the word to friends and family, organically expanding reach in a way that feels authentic rather than promotional.
From a credibility standpoint, showcasing real winners and their received prints builds trust and social proof, reinforcing the quality and value of the photographer’s work. Additionally, giving people the chance to experience a physical print in their own space can be transformative—once someone sees the craftsmanship, detail, and impact of a fine art print in person, they are far more likely to become a paying customer in the future. Beyond marketing benefits, free draws help humanize a brand by showing generosity and appreciation for supporters, which strengthens community around the photographer’s work. When used strategically, print giveaways are not about giving away value, but about creating meaningful connections that drive long-term growth, loyalty, and sales.
