“Mount Assiniboine Milky-Way” was taken in Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. Mount Assiniboine stands at an elevation of 3,618 metres and sits along the continental divide near the park’s southeast corner. This place is home to shimmering lakes, sparkling glaciers, sky-scraping peaks and alpine meadows. The main activities in this area are camping, hiking, mountain climbing, fishing, horseback riding and ski touring in the winter.
Mount Assiniboine is home to tons of wildlife species, such as elk, black and grizzly bears, mule deer, moose, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and more inhabit the park. Covering this area is with boreal forests of spruce, mixed with stands of alpine fir and lodgepole pine, protecting the lower elevations. If you are hiking in the elevation range of 2,100 and 2,400 metres, you will find open stands of alpine larch alongside alpine fir and Engelmann spruce. In the more open spaces, you will find scattered patches of false azalea, buffalo berries, twin berries, white rhododendrons and, periodically, red elder can be found.
The park remains open year-round with camping available during that time. During the peak season (June 26 – September 30), backcountry reservations are required for all overnight stays at Magog Lake and Og Lake campgrounds. Backcountry permits for these campgrounds must still be purchased during the non-peak season (October 1 – June 25). Available for overnight stays are cabins/huts, group camping and Walk-In/Backcountry/Wilderness Camping.
In this photograph above the cabin, you can see Wedgewood Peak on the right, Mount Assiniboine and Terrapin Mountain in the middle and The Towers on the left at a staggering 2846 meters tall. Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park has 27 great hiking trails, biking trails, running trails and more.
